Is The Single Black Mother The Modern Face of The Madonna and Child

The Single Mother has become the new face of the Black Family. There was a time when the idea of not having a Father in the home was viewed as devastating, shameful, and down right frowned upon. However in the last 20 to 30 years, it comes as no surprise; in fact, it's expected. There have been countless round-table debates and Barbershop discussions as to the capability of Women effectively raising Male Children, providing them with much needed balance and the skills to function in society as Men. Many will argue that a Father is absolutely needed primarily in the male child's formative years. Others stand on the notion that as long as there are examples of self sufficient men available, balance will not be an issue. So is the issue Fathers in the home, or upstanding examples of Male Productivity? Does the Single Black Mother represent the demise of the Black Family, or simply a rearranging of priorities? Can this new face of the Black Family be rectified? If so, how?

  1. Well I do agree that men are needed in a household, to help raise children and to show the children what a real man is. Cause to often children grow up with no real father figure and the mother is disrespecting his name and dragging his name through the mud, making matters worse. In regards to male productivity, I think in the last 20-30 years that has went down tremendously, Its not to many good role models around anymore. And the ones that are around are only concerned with their children, not any other little boys who may need mentoring. I don't think the black women represent the demise, but I do think that that the black man and women has a role in playing when it comes to the demise of a good family structure. It's but so long you can blame anyone and just fix whatever is the problem. As far as rectifying I think the black man and women will have to put whatever is holding them back or bothering them and come up with a solution.

  2. all the world is out of balance my dear and it will not change for the better any time soon. until false lifestyles are seen as such and people take responsibility for their lives and actions, im afraid role models will continue to dwindle...life it seems has changed...and not necessarily for the betterment of anyone
